My husband has had multiple back surgeries and has been in constant pain for over 40 years yet his faith in God remains strong. I wrote this poem for him. It represents his strength to stay faithful to God through his trials.
The Velvet Rose
On my birthday, there did arrive, a beautiful bouquet, so bright and alive
But after a while, I must admit, the display began to sag a bit.
Even with water and plenty of care, the bouquet had withered beyond repair.
Lifting the basket, I noticed with surprise, one velvet rose had managed to survive.
Other roses edges were ragged and worn from the trial but this rose was alive, there could be no denial.
Then thinking of my husband, so precious and dear; I lifted out the rose while shedding a tear.
While others around him wither and die, by Jesus’ life he will always be alive.
Like the velvet rose, he stands longer than the rest; like the velvet rose, he fares the test.
